The newly found Artistic Mermaid Foundation was initially coined to provide grants for ceramic students at the Edna Manley College that show promise in their field. The Foundation will also begin to plan beach clean-ups and other outreach activities. Part proceeds from the sales of these merchandises will go towards the foundation. 

Works of applied art are usually functional objects which have been "prettified" or creatively designed with both aesthetics and function in mind. While still keeping in the theme of the ocean and our coral reefs, these pieces serve some function whether deliberately or not.

These sculptures are created mainly for its aesthetic value and its beauty ("art for art's sake") and intellectual stimulation rather than its functional value. These ceramic sculptures explore the vast intricacies of coral reefs, with some paying specific attention to the threats that they face.
