Inspired by Anna-K’s ocean and coral reef conservation-centric practice and Brent’s exploration into cultural iconography, Preserving-Heritage examines notions of sustainability in both tangible, visible changes to our environment in the Caribbean, and our nostalgic connection to our cultural traditions that form our identities as Caribbean people. Both artists speak to things that are in danger of fading with time without conscious efforts towards preservation - our shorelines and our traditions.
In attempt to crystallize and attention to the Caribbean countries’ plights, the works in Preserving-Heritage were. The concepts intersect as we consider how much our landscape influences our way of living, and it prompts us consider the urgency behind the protection and both facets.
